Bokstavspussel 1.9.1

Bokstavspussel is an educational application designed to support young children in learning to read and write. The app features 36 pre-designed letter puzzles and includes functionality that allows proficient users to easily create and share custom puzzles with others.

All letters in the ready-made puzzles are pronounced accurately based on their context, facilitating the child's understanding of phonetics and demonstrating how the sounds of letters can vary depending on their combinations. Since children often learn uppercase letters elsewhere, the default puzzles are presented using lowercase letters, although there is an option to display only uppercase letters if desired.

Additionally, each puzzle can be modified—parents, for example, can record their own voice reading the words or replace images with photographs of their own children, enhancing personalization.

The app is inspired by Montessori principles, utilizing real photographs, phonetic pronunciation of each component (letters/fonemes), and categorizing words into: sound-based words (spelled as they sound), non-sound-based words (with short vowels), and irregularly spelled words (with pronunciation differing from spelling).

Bokstavspussel emphasizes independent child engagement by excluding advertisements, external links, and in-app purchases. It also features a safeguard that limits access to advanced settings, such as creating custom puzzles, editing, or deleting existing ones.

To create custom puzzles:

• Press and hold on a puzzle icon or background for one second
• Select "New Puzzle"
• Choose or capture a photograph
• Decide how the photo appears in the puzzle layout, accommodating both landscape and portrait orientations
• Select the thumbnail image for the puzzle
• Enter a puzzle word; the app automatically segments it into phonemes (with an option to disable segmentation for non-standard words or other languages)
• Record sounds for the individual parts of the word (letters/phonemes)

Sharing created puzzles entails:

• Sending puzzles via email directly within the app
• Exporting all modified and new puzzles to iTunes file sharing
• An automatic backup system via iTunes during app restoration ensures data preservation

Puzzles created by others can be imported through:

• The "Open in Bokstavspussel" feature from outside files such as email attachments
• iTunes file sharing for bulk import of multiple puzzles
